Our 'Raising Reading' initiative is now well on its way, with the children's 'Reading Journeys' and 'Get Caught Reading' photographs, displayed in the school entrance and library. The competition winner will be announced after Half Term! The children seem to be really enjoying and benefiting from their extra reading time each day- this should undoubtedly improve standards.

I am always impressed by the standards of writing in our school, but as ever we will be striving to improve every child's skills further. Each child currently has a punctuation target, and these will be changed to include other aspects of writing throughout the year. In order to keep up with and be aware of each child's progress, class teachers will be assessing their children's writing each term (old half term.) The work will be assessed against an agreed list of 'End of Year Expected Standards', and these results will then inform the class teacher's planning for the following term. In addition to this, we will be levelling the children's writing using the new APP (Assessing Pupil Progress) materials and cross referencing these results with the Standards Files which are nationally agreed levels of attainment.

The children will continue to write for the School Newspaper and to enter a variety of writing competitions- let's hope they are as successful as they were last year!
